When the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake varsity lacrosse players woke up Tuesday morning, the history of the Spartans' program could be summed up with a song: One is the loneliest number.

In the four years of the program at BH-BL, the team had won just a single game in the Suburban Council. Tuesday, the Spartans beat Ballston Spa. Thursday, they beat Colonie and on Saturday, Burnt Hills beat Bethlehem, 8-5, tripling its program win total in the span of five days.

Not that anybody really cares, but just a few years ago, I was sitting in on petition meetings at Burnt Hills, hoping a lacrosse team would finally be fielded there. It took a few years for that to happen and it took a few more years for the Spartans to get their feet wet, but the folks in Burnt Hills should be proud of a monumental week in the program's history.

Bruce Bouck Tournament at Schalmont: Bishop Gibbons topped Schalmont 7-6 in eight innings in a first round game, but Scotia-Glenville won the Bouck Tournament title Saturday afternoon.
Scotia defeated Cobleskill 14-4 in the opening round and handed Gibbons a 9-5 decision in the championship game.
Schalmont defeated Colonial Council rival Cobleskill in the consolation game, 11-4.
Niskayuna 7, Oneonta 1: The Silver Warriors won a non-league game over the Yellow Jackets.

Tamarac 7, Watervliet 2: Chelsie Matala hit two singles and drove in a run, while Kayla VanAlstyne also collected two hits and an RBI for the Bengals (1-3, 4-3) in a non-league victory over the Cannoneers.
Taylor Daniels hit a single and a triple and scored a run for Watervliet (2-4).

Track and Field
Maple Hill Invitational: Maple Hill’s Katie Roth was named the Outstanding Field Performer, winning the discus and shot put events for the Wildcats, who captured the team title.
Roth’s toss of 107 feet, five inches was the best in the discus and her shot put of 33 feet, 3 and ¾ inches was also good for first place.
Other winners included Watervliet’s Tierney McGlynn in the 200 meter dash (27.1), Berlin’s Rachel Ferris in the 400 meter hurdles (1:13.6) and Maple Hill’s Alyxe Perry in the pole vault (7-0) and Abby Hines in the 110 meter hurdles (17.8).
Maple Hill’s 1,600 meter relay team – Anna Curtain, Taylor Czajkowski, Alyxe Perry and Erin Mosher – also took home a first place finish with a time of 4:23.
