A look at the record book - revised

La Salle's Marquis Terrell (pictured above) has gained 1,727 yards this season, bringing his career total to 4,277 rushing yards, ranking him fifth all-time in Section II history.

Hudson Falls' Joe McMurry also jumped into the top five in his senior season, rushing for 2,186 yards through ten games, bringing his career total to 4,848, placing him fourth all-time in Section II history.

Both players will compete in New York State regional round games on Saturday, meaning they can add to their career totals.

The brand-new top ten career rushers in Section II history (as of 11/14/08):
1. Kareem Jones (Lansingburgh, 2000-03) 6,092 yds.
2. Kenny Youngs (Lansingburgh, 2003-07) 5,404 yds.

10. Chris Nappi (Niskayuna, 1997-00) 3,735

Both Terrell and McMurry have been adept at finding the endzone as well.

Terrell has scored 336 points, 13th all-time in Section II history.

Albany Academy receiver Jimmer Bennett finished his career with 199 receptions for 3,119 yards. He held Section II records in both categories before the 2008 season even began and is now 91 catches ahead of second place (Gloversville's Justin DeMagistris, 108) and 1,075 yards in front of the second-best yardage-gaining receiver in Section II history (Fort Edward's, Matt Thibodeau, 2,044).

Bennett holds second and third place for receiving yards in a single season (1,080 in '07 and 1,039 in '08).

He holds the record for receptions in a single season, catching 77 balls this year, edging out John Preston, who caught 76 passes at Rensselaer in 1980. (Preston was the varsity head coach at Colonie this season).

He holds the record for most catches in a single game, grabbing 15 passes against Ravena in week four this season, again edging out Preston, who had held the record with 14.

And don't think he's done yet at Academy. Bennett is also a fantastic point guard for the Cadets' basketball team.

Fonda-Fultonville's Kevin Hanson finished his career with 98 receptions, claiming sole possession of sixth place on the all-time list, edging out current Burnt Hills head coach Matt Shell, who caught 97 passes for Gloversville from 1986-87. Johnstown's Joe Ruggeri also caught 97 passes for the Sir Bills from 1988-89.

Speaking of Burnt Hills, Spartans quarterback Paul Layton is now the most prolific kicker in Section II history.

Burnt Hills' Paul Layton has kicked 161 points through the uprights in his career - 140 extra points and seven field goals.
He passed Ravena's Norris Ackert, who had kicked 158 points (134 XPs, 8 FGs) for the Indians from 1995-97.
Layton and the Spartans take on Indian River tonight in a NYS Class A quarterfinal match.
